“Read any Viber by number” — why that's a scam, not a feature

A site that shows a chat after you type a number has proven nothing. Identifying a contact is not the same as having authorised access to their private messages.

  • They promise: “Enter a number, see their Viber chats.”A number identifies a contact. It does not grant access to private messages — no website can read them from a number.
  • They promise: “Pay us and we'll recover or unlock any account.”Payment is not a data source. Only the owner can recover an account, through Viber's own verification. A second “fee” is the classic recovery scam.

We never ask for your password, activation code or PIN, and we never offer access to someone else's account.

How we check our facts

Every number, limit and menu path comes from Viber's own Help Center, with the date we checked it.

  • Official sources onlyFacts come from help.viber.com — not blogs or forums.

Frequently asked questions

  • Can VbSpy recover my Viber or send me a code?

No. Activation codes and account verification stay with Viber and your mobile carrier. We explain the official steps; we never receive or send codes, and we never ask for your password or PIN.

  • What's the difference between an activation code and a 2-step PIN?

An activation code is a six-digit code Viber sends now to verify your number. A 2-step PIN is a separate secret you set earlier; Viber asks for it on a new phone. They're fixed by different routes — see the activation guide.

  • Can someone read my Viber messages just from my phone number?

No. A phone number identifies a contact but gives no access to private conversations. Viber chats are end-to-end encrypted, and any site that claims to show them from a number is a demo or a scam.

  • Will moving to a new phone keep my chat history?

Only if you use a supported route. A direct Wi-Fi transfer needs both phones on the same platform and Viber 25.0 or higher; otherwise you restore from a cloud backup with the same number. Android and iOS history cannot be transferred between each other.

  • Does restoring a backup ever lose messages?

Yes. Restoring returns your chat list to the exact state of the backup, so messages received after that backup are not saved. Check the backup date before you restore — the backup guide explains how.

  • Someone claims to be Viber support and wants my code. What do I do?

Don't send it. Viber never asks for your activation code or PIN in a chat. Stop the conversation, keep the message as evidence, and report it through Viber's official block/report tools.
